The department has confirmed that the Core Systems orbital transport hub has reached a major construction milestone, with the primary docking ring now complete. The hub is one of the largest infrastructure projects under way in the region and will service both freight and passenger traffic once operational.
What's been completed
Work on the docking ring began in the 2125–26 cycle and has progressed ahead of schedule. Crews have now completed the structural shell, pressurisation systems and the first of four berthing arms.
- The primary docking ring, supporting up to twelve vessels at once
- Pressurisation and life-support systems for the passenger terminal shell
- The first of four berthing arms, with the remaining three due by early next cycle
Reaching this milestone ahead of schedule is a credit to the workforce and shows the strength of our delivery partnership with system governments.Dr James Hadfield, Secretary, Department of Interstellar Planning
What's next
Fit-out of the passenger terminal will begin in the coming months, followed by systems testing and crew training ahead of the hub's planned opening. The department expects the hub to be fully operational within two planning cycles, subject to continued progress. The project has supported more than 1,200 construction jobs across the Core Systems since works began.
Regular construction updates will be published as the project continues. Communities in the Core Systems region can register for updates through the department's contact page.
