How hyperlane corridors work
Hyperlane corridors are the protected routes that carry scheduled passenger and freight traffic between star systems. Each corridor is surveyed, beaconed and monitored by the department so that vessels can travel between the Core Systems, Inner Colonies, Frontier Territories and Outer Rim on predictable, safe schedules.
A corridor's classification reflects its traffic volume and the level of maintenance it receives. Primary corridors link major population centres and carry the bulk of interstellar trade; secondary corridors serve smaller colonies and connect into the primary network at an orbital interchange; survey corridors are newly opened routes still being beaconed and are open to traffic with restrictions.
The Vega Hyperlane Upgrade, proposed ahead of construction, will add a new orbital interchange serving the Proxima Region and resilience works to protect freight movement through the Orion debris field. Read more about the investment on the media release.
| Corridor | Regions connected | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Meridian Primary | Core Systems – Inner Colonies | In service |
